Gallery: Last Tomcat Class (March 2005)
In March 2005 the three very last F-14 Tomcat pilots went to sea for their carrier qualifications. Our embark on the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) started in Norfolk, Virginia, in the pre-dawn hours of Monday the ?? of March. Soon after reaching open sea the first of two Tomcats of VF-101 'Grim Reapers) arrived followed by a number of F/A-18F Super Hornets of VFA-122 and VFA-103. The weather that day was excellent but the following day, the day we should fly back to Norfolk, brought weather that foul that all flying was cancelled. Hurricane winds of up to 65 knots raged over the flight deck, being outside was prohibited. The next day, the weather had improved and the C-2 Greyhound picked us up.
